Astrid Hedman is a professional rider and trainer in Working Equitation, currently ranked among the Top 5 riders in the world and representing the Swedish national team. Known for her precision, balance, and deep understanding of the horse, Astrid is one of Scandinavia's most successful equestrians on the international stage.

Originally from Piteå, Sweden, Astrid's life with horses began long before she could walk. With a mother managing the local riding school, she grew up surrounded by horses and riders — a foundation that shaped her lifelong commitment to the equestrian art and sport.

After graduating from the natural science program in high school, Astrid spent a formative year working with her longtime mentor Maria Eriksson in Kalix, who continues to coach her today. In 2011, she made a bold move to Portugal, drawn by the country's strong riding traditions and the Lusitano breed that defines Working Equitation.

Starting as a working student, she quickly stood out for her determination and feel. By 2014 she was riding professionally for a Lusitano breeder, training the stallion Altivo from novice to master level. The pair made their international debut in Paris 2017, and just a year later Astrid represented Sweden at her first World Championship in Munich 2018.

Since 2019, Astrid has run her own operation at Clube Hípico do Norte in Esposende, just north of Porto. The riding centre features five arenas, paddocks, and over 200 boxes, offering excellent facilities for training at the highest level. There she trains both horses and riders, competes internationally, and manages a select group of horses for training, development, and sales.

Together with her current horse Jaguar, an approved Lusitano stallion, Astrid has reached new heights — with multiple international podium finishes and a 12th place at the European Championships in 2024. The next target: the World Championships in Spain 2026.

In addition to Working Equitation, Astrid has competed successfully up to Inter A in dressage and 1.10 m show jumping, and holds the title as Portuguese Champion for 5-year-old dressage horses (2013).

Her approach is grounded in trust, harmony, and precision. She trains riders of all levels, from dedicated amateurs to elite competitors, and regularly holds clinics across Sweden and Europe.
